I am almost never home, seriously, never home. I work all day and then usually I go straight to the gym for a class or I have volleyball or soccer. On gym days I typically get home around 730-830, unless I go grocery shopping after, which happens often, I get home around 9 something. This doesn't leave me with a lot of time to throw together a delicious dinner, or when I do, I end up eating around 10pm, not ideal. When I have sports I can get home anywhere from 8pm to midnight, which leads to me skipping meals or picking up something quick.
Because of this when I saw a Groupon for 28 Lunches and Dinners from a group called Personal Trainer Foods and after reading a bunch of reviews on Yelp I decided to give it a try. They say you can lose up to 30lbs and all that typical diet mumbo jumbo but I chose to try it more for a convenience reason. It will serve as something quick that I can make at lunch at work and after my work outs. You freeze the meals, microwave them, and eat, how simple is that?
Also I tore my ankle on April 4th and it still has not healed, therefore I am sidelined from soccer as well as many of my usual gym classes. This kills me. I am such a gym/sports rat that having to sit out literally makes me go crazy. I have been able to sneak in a few work outs, even though I shouldn't, and I've played for my women's volleyball team (again I shouldn't) but it is not the same. This leaves me at the heaviest I've weighed in a while. I was on a roll, toning up, eating healthy, snacking on chocolate but working out so not feeling guilty about it and that all changed. I had been toying with trying Paleo and this diet is pretty close to the Paleo guidelines so I figured why not try it. Convenience and eating right, and hey, if I drop a few pounds in the process thats an added bonus! Will I do this for 28 lunches and dinners straight, no, I am out of town a few days during it and I will not deprive myself of special occasion stuff, bday dinners, bbqs, so on. But I am going to try to stick to it as much as I can! Alright now that that is out of the way...
First up, purchase the groupon. It cost $199 for 28 lunches and 28 dinners, done. Next follow the Groupon directions to the Personal Trainer Food site and pick out the meals that I want. Here I was able to pick out 56 veggies and 56 proteins (Paleo much?). It seemed a bit overwhelming but I just went through the list, picked anything I thought looked decent, and then moved along. Next up was picking a delivery date. I thought it would be the typical scenario where you order and it comes x number of days after the order. However here they gave you the option of a few days to have it delivered on which was a nice perk. Because I was going to be out of town the early delivery day, I chose the next day which was Friday the 20th. I ended up working from home that day which was nice so that when the food arrived I could unpack it right away. The food arrived exactly on the day that I chose and it came in a HUGE box, really, HUGE!
I open the box up and see a ton of frozen stuff packed with dry ice. Below is a picture of inside the box just to get an idea.
Now comes the overwhelming part, I had to take out all of the meals, organize them by the type of food they are, empty my freezer (seriously, empty it) and then organize it in the freezer in a way that I can figure out wtf is what. The final product is below. Hello frozen food craziness!
Day 1 details in a follow up post.
